We have just learned that our latest shirt design (front, back) has run into some controversy. Actually, It’s been a bit of a rocky road from the start with this one. Back at the sketch board, some of our art direction ideas were met by hesitation and according to the designer would feel “uncomfortable to do”. However, the design went through and obviously with such a fantastic piece of artwork and beautiful symbolism the t-shirt has hit home with Bloodbath’s audience all over the world, but apparently a demon vomiting on Jesus on a cross, surrounded by snakes, vultures and skulls was over the line for some confused ” death metal” fans. Perhaps they should ask themselves if it was really death metal they were searching for in the first place. Here are examples of some Dr Phil approved quotes we recieved:

“Recently saw your t-shirt “Mock The Cross.” It seems rather childish and immature not to mention very dangerous, to ridicule Christ. Why such disdainment for the incarnate God who died to save all mankind, even your sorry asses! If you have a problem with organized religion that’s one thing. It has little to do with Christ and His life and teachings. Of course if you curse Him in apparent ignorance, then you wouldn’t know the difference. Hell won’t be a cool place to be. The power of the cross is foolishness to those perishing.”

“I Don’t care about all the satan woreshippers that are gonna flame me. But, BloodBath YOU JUST LOST A FAN. On that degrading shirt. I believe what i believe. I rather not have bands mock it. This band is done. Never again. See you on judgment day.”

To top it off, we also just recieved the following message from Raw Talent, the printer of the merchandise:

“I have just been informed by the owner of the company that unfortunately we will not be able to print the “mock the cross” design again for you guys. It is against the owner’s moral and ethical standard for himself and also for the company. He wanted me to let you know and to send his apologies.”

With that said, let’s get the weak aside and the Bloodbath choir ready to mock the fucking cross again as we moved on to a new printer for our latest over the top ‘Iesous’ shirt design. Original artwork by Alex Norman features a detailed drawing of a dead Jesus with a crown of thorns and blind eyes, bleeding crosses in the background on both sides, and his hair engulfing skulls and the Bloodbath logo. The back features a cross dripping in blood with the lyrics: “Eeso Yeshua Iesous Die by Our Rage”. The design was also printed using a technique which results in the ink becoming one with the fabric, creating a soft vintage look and feel. Not a shirt to miss, grab one now!

Get one now!

If you haven’t already checked out the new sick shirt design, do it now because we pulled out all the stops on this one. The original artwork was done by Jeff Finley and features a winged demon vomiting on Jesus on a cross, surrounded by snakes, vultures on tree and a ton of fine detail to be found, capped by the Bloodbath logo on top. The back features the text “Mock the Cross” with the demon from the front in red. The design was also printed using a technique which results in the ink becoming one with the fabric, creating a soft vintage look and feel. Not a shirt to miss, so grab one now!

There are also rumours saying that Bloodbath might shoot a video for one of the songs off The Fathomless Mastery and we can confirm that to be true. Stay tuned to find out what song it will be and much more.

Also, don’t forget to go vote for Bloodbath (and much more) in the 2008 Terrorizer’s readers poll!

The only two summer festival apperances for 2008 are now behind us and heres what vocalist Mike had to say about it:

“Hey people! Just got back from the 2 shows we did with Bloodbath! Great fun! We played at the Party.San festival in Germany and at the Pellavarock fest in Finland. I was really sick with the flu/sore throat and so was Axe so the 2 rehearsals we did for the shows was a drag, really! During the shows I had to blow my nose all the time, which probably isn’t the best for death metal cred, but what the hell?
The first show was pretty disatrous. The sound on stage was out of control and none of us could hear anything at all. Not a great show but fun nevertheless. They only gave us a 15 minute changover so we didn’t have time to do a proper line check. Loads of people there and I guess most seemed to enjoy themselves, but we really though it was horrendous, haha!
The 2nd one was way better…both me and Axe we’re doing slightly better yet I still had to blow my nose all the time. It was a tight show with much better stagesound yet a lot less people being a smaller festival in the woods. Our dress-code? Blood infested, mud caked, worn, torn shitty old t-shirts, black pants and some blood all over…the usual stuff. It was great times overall, I thought I’d be miserable being sick and being so busy with Opeth, I was on the verge of calling it off, but truly ended up having a great time. So, we’ll go under the surface again now, but do check out the album once it’s out….it’s cool as….hell!”

As the two only live apperances for 2008 are done, we’ve decided to put up some of the more “laundry unfriendly” stage oufits for auction. If you want to own a piece of death metal history and collectibles exclusively made only for this occassion, now here’s your chance to grab all five bloodbath members ripped, torn, blood drenched and mud caked t-shirts as seen worn live at both shows.

Bloodbath just spent the last week at Park Studio in Stockholm where Axe put down an (un)healthy doze of all the basic ingredients and more to get this death metal monster meal cooking in hell’s oven. We’re talking classic oldschool skinpounding, furious blastbeats, double bassdrums, all kinds of tempos and a heavy load of killer fills, yeah you name it… This time it turned out to be 11 brand new songs on the menu for the band’s still untitled third album. So what direction does the material take this time? Well It’s definately taking off where we left with Unblessing the Purity. The material represents nothing but hateful brutality, so there’s surely a lot of speed countered with heavy groove. Riff wise, we’re playing a lot with dissonant harmonies for that feverish possessed feeling, but we also brought back the whole melodic yet haunting “bee-swarming” theme concept from the past albums to represent the classic sound, so there’s definately gonna be a good deal of variety on here which we hope to pack together in the most crushing production yet. The recording will now be moved to engineer David Castillo’s newbuilt studio where we’ll put down the guitars and bass over the next month while waiting for Mike to return from his touring in June to cut the vocals before we enter mix mode. The cover artwork will once again be handled by Dusty Peterson. The album has been set for an October 6th release, but the album title, song titles, audio teasers and the coverartwork will show up during the summer. Stay tuned. Bloodbath is here to slay, Bloodbath is here to stay!
